Write On Writers where writing inspires and transforms lives
Write On Writers is based upon the method developed by Pat Schneider, founder of The Amherst Writers & Artists (AWA). The method is based on the philosophy that “every person is a writer, and every writer deserves a safe environment in which to experiment, learn, and develop craft.”
The objective of Writer On Writers Workshops is to provide a safe, supportive setting for a community of writers to come together and create new works or further develop work in progress. Opportunities are also available for group critique of manuscripts.
At Write On Writers, we come together to write together as writers and write in response to prompts, timed by the workshop facilitator. The group responds to pieces written with feedback that is positive; echoing back to the writer the strongest aspects of the piece that have stayed with the listener.
All work is treated as fiction to create a safe environment for the writer. The workshops are not intended to be therapy, but we believe that writing as a practice is a powerful tool for self-discovery and healing for writers from all backgrounds.
Writers who have used the AWA method have published major works and won awards and top prizes in the United States and Ireland.
In weekly workshops, eight to ten writers meet once a week to create new work and respond constructively to one another’s writing. In the style of the Amherst Writers & Artists method, each session includes timed writing exercises in response to a wide variety of prompts. Each writer responds in his/her chosen genre. Writers share their work aloud and receive pointed, positive feedback from their fellow writers.
In one day workshops – offered throughout the year – opportunities are created to focus intensively upon writing in a five hour session. Timed exercise prompts are also given and writers are encouraged to read aloud; allowing for positive, precise feedback.
Write On Writers welcomes writers of all skill levels, ages and genres with a sincere desire to write in a safe and supportive community. Whether your goal is publication, support for completion of work in progress, creative expression or personal exploration, the workshop will encourage you to develop the artistry of your own original voice.
